This class teaches improvisers the basic tenets of character-driven long form improv. Through exercises and two-person scenework, students will be challenged to initiate scenes from the top of their intelligence, develop characters from their life experiences, and build relationships with their scene partners. This highly engaging class will bring each student closer to trusting themselves and their instincts as well as those of their fellow classmates. Truly focused on grounded, patient, and collaborative play, this course will awaken each student’s curiosity to discover themselves and the world around them. The four semifinalists were chosen from 16 submissions that were submitted in early January. Submissions were received within North Carolina, yet extended to other states that included New York, Georgia, Illinois, Virginia, and Kentucky. A panel of readers were chosen to examine and score the submissions based on specific criteria formulated by the festival sponsors. The submitters with the top four scores were selected for the semi-finals.

When she's not performing comedy, she's an Education Program Manager working in entrepreneurship and innovation programs. During the class you will write, develop, and perform a three-to-five-minute set. You will learn the fundamentals of writing and performing standup comedy. CATCh opened its first permanent venue at 4200 South Blvd in Charlotte on February 8, 2019.[3] During COVID, the theater moved its location to a larger space in the same complex at 4128 South Blvd in Charlotte, where it continues to operate. She has taught master classes at improv festivals and studios across the United States, Istanbul, and Iraqi Kurdistan. Mandy specializes in applying the Meisner Technique to long-form Improvisation and earned her Meisner teacher certification through the True Acting Institute. Nias started performing 12 years ago—to impress a guy she had a crush on who told her he was going to do an open mic in Fort Mill.

Stuart has been performing, writing, and teaching improv and sketch comedy since 1997. He completed the training programs of The Second City, Annoyance Theater, and Improv Olympic. In addition to performing with The Second City National Touring Company, and being a founding member of the internationally renowned music improv troupe Baby Wants Candy, Stuart has also performed in New York with the Magnet Theater and the People’s Improv Theater. As a faculty member of The Second City Training Center, he has taught improv from the beginning to conservatory levels, sketch writing, storytelling, music improv, and youth/teen courses.

Keli Semelsberger is the Owner of Charlotte Comedy Theater and a 29-year Chicago Improv Comedy Veteran. She is one of the co-founders of the VAPA Center, the author of “Improv Shaman – The Transformative Journey of Divine Play”, a tribe/team-building specialist, energy medicine practitioner, class V raft guide, and a veteran of the US Army. Her classes are legendary in their life-changing messages and inspired energy. Keli is currently focused on re-opening our sister theater, Big Island Comedy Theater, and works remotely.

Aisha Dew, President of the Dew Group, and avid supporter of the North Carolina theater community, moderated the event. Kim has been a student and performer of Improv for nearly 10 years. Throughout her professional career, she has instructed and presented on several topics in the academic, corporate, and non-profit arenas. Since completing improv training at the CCT Training Center she has performed short-form and long-form improv for weekend shows, corporate events, and comedy festivals. She is an original member of CCT’s all-female ensemble “That’s What She Said”.
